In an effort to make our society a better place to live, work, and play, NMC Healthcare organized a Health & Safety – First Aid Programme as part of Skills4life 2012 Summer Program of Vocational Education Development Centre (VEDC) and Secondary Technical School, Al Shahama.
The event aimed atnot only promoting an active lifestyle among children, but also brings awareness to the necessity of being prepared in case of an emergency.
When an individual suffers an out-of-hospital heart attack, his survival depends greatly on receiving immediate CPR from a bystander. However, according to the American Heart Association (AHA), less than one-third of these individuals receive the help they need, because most bystanders are untrained in CPR and are afraid they will do something wrong.
Dr. Naresh Rai, MBBS, MS, FICS (USA) General Surgeon, NMC Specialty Hospital Abu Dhabi and trained and certified medics from NMC Healthcare demonstrated basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which is a life-saving technique that helps maintain some blood flow to the brain and heart, and can help "buy time" until paramedics arrive with more advanced care.
