NMC Healthcare participated in Anti-Obesity Drive
NMC Healthcare participated in the anti-obesity drive organized by ADNOC today on 17th April. NMC’s participation intends to raise awareness about the benefits of healthy living and wellbeing and to spread awareness about the obesity menace among ADNOC employees and the community-at-large. NMC Specialty Hospital offered a wide array of free medical tests and health screening programs including glucose test, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), exercise demonstrations by trained exercise physiotherapist and interactive sessions on healthy eating habit by qualified dietician etc.
The recent paradigm shift in lifestyle and rising per capita income have led to the consumption of unbalanced diets and a more sedentary lifestyle in the GCC, thereby aggravating the prevalence of lifestyle ailments such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
A local newspaper recently reported that obesity rate among GCC national is 40 %, one of the highest in the world. Alarmingly, more than 10 per cent of children are now overweight or obese in the GCC.
